The Create Grace Key (CRTGRCKEY) Tool

If in the event of a disaster or if you are running a test of your disaster recovery procedure, you may need to run the TAA Productivity Tools on an i5 System for which you do not have a license key. The tool CRTGRCKEY - Create Grace Key was designed for such purposes. This will authorize the tools to run on the i5 System on which it is executed for a period of seven changes to the system date. (Note: Normally this is seven days, but changing the system date manually also counts towards the number of changes).

CRTGRCKEY is a short-term solution intended for disaster tests and emergencies. If you are doing a disaster test that will run for seven days or less, this command will suffice. If you need more than seven days for the disaster recovery/testing, please contact us to arrange for a software key for the alternate system.

What follows is the documentation for the CRTGRCKEY command. You should consider printing this and keeping it with you disaster recovery documentation.

Create Grace Key (CRTGRCKEY) Tool

The Create Grace Key command is designed for situations where you cannot contact the TAA Productivity Tools owner, but need to operate for a few days (a grace period) on a system that does not have a valid license for the product.

You should not use CRTGRCKEY if you can contact the TAA Productivity Tools owner for a more permanent key.

To use CRTGRCKEY you must have *ALLOBJ authority. You would enter the command (there are no parameters):

CRTGRCKEY

If the request is allowed, a prompt will appear that allows you to confirm the request.

If a 'grace period' is granted, the period lasts until the system date changes 7 times. On the seventh change, the license is considered invalid and you must contact the TAA Productivity Tools owner for a valid key.

CRTGRCKEY may only be used once on a system. You must receive a new release or update from the TAA Productivity Tools owner before you can re-use CRTGRCKEY.
